Last Friday Bridgend Assembly Member Carwyn Jones congratulated staff and trustees for their hard work this year helping so many individuals and community groups across Bridgend. As a guest speaker at Bridgend Association for Voluntary Organisation’s 2014 AGM, Mr Jones spoke about the support that BAVO provides community groups and third sector organisations across Bridgend which deliver so many valuable services to people in his constituency.
The year the theme of the AGM was social enterprise. BAVO have been encouraging community groups and third sector organisations to think long term about sustainable community support and move away from the dependency of grants to a more independent and reliable way of being funded to ensure that the support community groups provide is more stable and long term.
AM Carwyn Jones said “The focus on social enterprise this year, is very promising. Social enterprises do a great service for society – creating jobs for people who would otherwise be left out; reinvesting profits in community projects; protecting the environment and providing vital services for people who might not get them otherwise.”
“It is wonderful to hear that 7 new social enterprises have been formed in Bridgend in 2014 with the support from BAVO and funding from a number of groups including Bridgend County Borough Council.”
Carwyn Jones was followed by a small video on the work of BAVO supporting social enterprises across Bridgend and a talk by Menna Jones from Antur Waunfawr, a Social Enterprise based in Caernarfon providing work opportunities for adults with learning disabilities.
