Bridgend AM encourages local youngsters to register for discounted travel scheme

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones is encouraging local 16-18 year olds to sign up to a new Welsh Government scheme which will give them a third off bus travel in Wales from the 1st of September. The Welsh Young Persons Discounted Travel (WYPDT) Scheme will help young people in Wales reduce the cost of accessing training, education and work, as well as helping to pay for all other journeys.

Local youngsters can register their interest for the new Scheme Card via http://Gov.wales/mytravelpass (English) or http://Llyw.cymru/fyngherdynteithio (Welsh) to take advantage of the new scheme. From the 1st September, those who have registered for a card will be able to use it and receive discounted fares on all local buses and TrawsCymru journeys throughout Wales.

The Welsh Government has allocated £5million to the introduction of the scheme in 2015-16, and a further £9.75million in 2016-17.

Carwyn Jones AM said “This is great news for 16-18 year olds in my constituency. It is vital that our young people are able to access jobs and training opportunities in Wales more easily. Travel costs can sometimes be a barrier and this scheme aims to change that by making it easier and cheaper for 16-18 year olds to travel around Wales. I would encourage all those who are eligible to register”.
