Last week, Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones together with the Mayor of Bridgend, Cllr Richard Young, attended the grand opening of the Mulligan Community Third Sector Offices. The Offices are located in Western Avenue on the Bridgend Industrial Estate.
Mulligan Community is local to the Bridgend area and is a non-profit social enterprise set up to support families and individuals in Bridgend. The opening of the Offices is the first step on the road to the MC Family Centre it hopes to open in late Spring 2016.
Mulligan Community hope to show its support by providing Third Sector organisations with affordable office spaces to rent. It is currently home to Home Start Bridgend and Barnardos Cymru. There are a number of meeting rooms that can be hired out and three family assessment rooms. The offices are accessible by a DDA compliant lift and stairs and has double glazed windows, central heating, kitchen and toilet facilities.
Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones said “I was very pleased to attend the grand opening of the Mulligan Community Third Sector Offices. It was great to have a tour of the facility, to see what would be on offer and to hear about how Mulligan Community want to reach out and help Third Sector organisations. It was also an opportunity to hear more about their plans for the Mulligan Community Family Centre in Bridgend. The aim will be to provide a Family Centre for families and individuals, open from Monday- Saturday, 8am to 8pm, that will offer a variety of support groups, facilities and services. Some of the services it will look to provide include help with employment opportunities, help on being a parent, help with relationships, help with the family, help with health and wellbeing and help with money. Mulligan Community believes in giving people, regardless of age, race, or gender, a second chance and the opportunities they provide through a range of advice, counselling and support groups, aim to catch people before they slide into poverty, homelessness and social exclusion”.
Amanda Kirk, Director, Mulligan Community said “The Grand Opening of the MC Third Sector Offices was a huge success, over 100 people attended, coming from a variety of Charities, Businesses and Public Services. It was an honour to meet Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones and the Mayor of Bridgend, Cllr Richard Young and the Mayoress, Mrs Annette Young. They were so supportive of both the MC Third Sector Offices and the services that the offices are providing and the MC Family Centre that will be opening in Bridgend in Spring. We have been overwhelmed by support from the Bridgend County Borough Council, many departments want to be involved in the MC Family Centre and many local Businesses are lining up to be involved with Business Sponsorship and making their mark in stamping out poverty and social exclusion in Bridgend, it’s a very exciting time for Bridgend.”
