Primary Health Care Centre, Porthcawl

I was pleased to see that last month Bridgend Council’s Development Control Committee had voted to approve plans for a new Primary Health Care Centre for Porthcawl, subject to the applicant entering into a S106 Agreement and conditions. The current arrangements are no longer fit for purpose therefore this new medical centre is much needed in the area. At the Committee meeting, discussions centred on highway and pedestrian safety issues and car parking provision.

The S106 Agreement covers a range of issues. For example, the applicant will have to bring forward a Traffic and Delivery Management Plan, a landscaping scheme, a scheme for the comprehensive and integrated drainage of the site, a scheme for the provision of pedestrian crossing facilities across the A4229 Pyle Road at the Northern Splitter Island of the A4229 / A4106 /Fulmar Road roundabout and provide funding for a bus shelter at the bus stop at Newton Nottage Road. Also, the applicant will need to provide an extended bus service from Nottage to the Health Centre and secure an area of land close to the site to provide a minimum of 20 staff car parking spaces.
