On the 22nd May, Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was happy to put his best foot forward to support the Step out for Stroke event at Newbridge Fields, in Bridgend. The annual event is now in its third year and is growing in popularity. Hundreds of walkers took part in the fundraising event all with their own special reasons for taking part and showing their support. Thankfully the weather was sunny.
Sadly, many of us will know someone who has been affected by stroke. There are many things that people can do to prevent stroke, such as taking regular exercise, maintaining a healthy diet, reducing smoking and alcohol and importantly, by having regular checks of their blood pressure.
The money raised from the event will help to fund crucial research projects and help support the work carried out by the Stroke Association to highlight the importance of stroke prevention.
Mr Jones said “It was great to see so many people support this event. I was honoured to have been asked to officially start the walk and to take part. I know there will have been a lot of money raised.”
Mr Jones added “I would also like to congratulate Cllr David Sage on taking on his own personal challenge on the day.”
