AM invited to bowl the first wood

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was delighted to take part in the opening ceremony of the British Isles Championships 2016- Junior Ladies International Series (under 25’s) recently. This prestigious tournament was hosted by the Welsh Women’s Bowling Association (WWBA) at Bridgend Bowling Club.  Mr Jones was invited to raise the international flag and then bowl the first wood to test the condition of the bowling green.

Carwyn Jones AM said “It was great having the opportunity to bowl the first wood and to learn the techniques involved with lawn bowling. Congratulations to all involved on a great tournament. In particular, I would like to congratulate Jess Sims and Laura Harwood from the Welsh team on winning the Under 25 British Isles Pairs. What a great achievement.

“It was lovely to see the event so well supported and I hope all the supporters enjoyed the tournament. The facilities at Bridgend Bowling Club including the bowling greens looked fantastic and it was a great opportunity for the Bridgend Club and its members to showcase their facilities to a wider audience. The WWBA and the Bridgend Bowling Club members worked tirelessly to ensure that the tournament was a great success.

“I also enjoyed the performance of the Bridgend Male Choir. I am a vice president of the Choir and they were in fine voice.”

Mr Jones added “I would also like to praise the Bridgend Air Cadets who added to the pomp and ceremony of the occasion, making the ceremony feel special.”
