In September, I enjoyed taking part in Porthcawl U3A’s version of Any Questions. Keeping to the format of the popular Radio 4 panel programme, Porthcawl U3A members were invited to submit their questions on a range of topics in advance of the event. The questions were not made known to me and fellow panellists The Venerable Peggy Jackson, Archdeacon of Llandaff, Anne Morgan, the former High Sheriff of Mid Glamorgan and Andrew Slade, Headteacher of Porthcawl Comprehensive School in advance of the event. This made for a very lively debate. Keeping the panellists in order was Chris James, the Chair of Porthcawl U3A. Jonathan Dimbleby would have been very proud.
Six questions were selected. Questions chosen reflected local interest and news and current affairs. Question topics included wealth distribution in society, the entrapment of Sam Allardyce, former England Football Manager, the regeneration of Porthcawl, should the Assembly have more powers, what it means to be Welsh and which has the more secure future the Labour Party or the Church.
I would like to thank the organisers Dorothy and Doug Jones for organising the event. They have worked hard and it was a great success.
