BAVO’s Volunteer Achievement Awards

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was very pleased to attend BAVO’s Bridgend County Borough Volunteer Achievement Awards at the Heronston Hotel.

BAVO annually recognises and honours outstanding people and organisations that have made a significant contribution to the community during the past year. There are eight categories including an award for the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award, Volunteer of the Year Award, Sports Volunteer Award, Charity Shop of the Year Award and Befriending/Mentoring Volunteer Award.

Mr Jones said “I would like to thank BAVO for organising this wonderful event in celebration of our volunteers and their achievements. These awards are so important and a great opportunity to say thank you to all those who volunteer, who contribute so much to our society and make such a huge difference to our lives and communities.”

“I was delighted to present an award to Louise Roberts for the Community Companions project. It was lovely to meet Louise and to hear all about her volunteering as a Community Companion befriender and also about how she set up a befriending café in Dyffryn Chapel in Caerau. It was really interesting to hear from Louise that having this café has been a lifeline for many people who not only use the café for social activities but also as an opportunity to make lasting friendships.”
