Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was invited to ring the bell to get the race underway for the many hundreds of runners who had signed up to take part in Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life event in Newbridge Fields in Bridgend.
Despite the weather, just under a thousand runners braved the elements to run around the course located in the very heart of the town.
Mr Jones had the opportunity to speak to some of those taking part and to hear their own personal reasons for running. He also had the opportunity to hand out medals to the runners at the finish line.
Mr Jones said “Congratulations to everyone who took part. It is a great achievement and I know that lots of money has been raised for the charity. Each person has their own reasons for taking part and hearing about just some of them was very humbling.
“I would like to say thank you to all the staff and the volunteers for their huge efforts and for their help to make the event such a success.”
