Bridgend AM and First Minister Carwyn Jones took part in the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Ride at the Senedd in Cardiff Bay.
On exercise bikes located in The Neuadd at the Senedd, Assembly Members, Support Staff, Veterans, serving personnel and Legion beneficiaries aimed to cycle the distance from the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff Bay to Passchendaele to mark the start of the Remembrance period in Wales and commemorate the Battle of Passchendaele 100 years ago. Those taking part were invited to cycle as far as they could in 5mins. Over 70 people participated on the day and after 6 hours, the target of 300 miles was reached.
Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones said “It was great to take part in the Poppy Ride and to help cover the distance from Cardiff to Passchendaele. I was delighted that in 5mins, I had covered a distance of just over 2km. I would like to thank the Royal British Legion for organising this event at the Senedd to mark the Remembrance period. The Royal British Legion gives excellent support to the Armed Forces Community and I am very pleased to support such a worthy cause.”
