As Patron of the Bridgend Business Forum, Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was delighted to attend this year’s Business Forum Awards at the Coed y Mwster Hotel in Coychurch.
Mr Jones said “It is always a great pleasure to attend the event and to recognise the great work that is done by the business community in Bridgend. I know that the event is eagerly anticipated every year and this year the event is celebrating its five year milestone.
“We know how important businesses are, not just as employers, but as drivers of the local economy. These awards are a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and promote local business successes and to recognise our diverse range of local businesses and individual entrepreneurs.”
The host for the evening was the BBC newscaster and presenter, Sian Lloyd.
In all, there were 19 finalists across eight categories, which included: start-up business of the year, service business of the year and entrepreneur of the year, with Porthcawl Surf School, A&R Contract Cleaning Specialist Ltd, and Bang on Brewery Ltd, among the businesses shortlisted.
As Patron, Mr Jones was invited to deliver the Patron’s Message. He congratulated all those who had been nominated, once again, a very strong field this year. He stated that businesses in Bridgend are going from strength to strength. He also spoke about Brexit. How the UK with its constituent nations and regions can retain unfettered access to European markets and improve trading relations with other parts of the world, is perhaps the defining question of our times. He stated that businesses need to know what their future economic relationship with the EU will look like.
