Emergency Question: Ford Bridgend Engine Plant

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones tabled an Emergency Question at the Welsh Assembly on the Ford Bridgend Engine Plant.

Below is an extract from his speech and watch the full video clip below:-

Mr Jones said “Pleased my urgent question on Ford Bridgend was allowed by the Llywydd today. I watched the plant being built and now it seems that there is a strong possibility that I will see the plant close. The proposal to close the plant is a blow to the solar plexus of the town of Bridgend. There was no warning. For forty years, the workers at Ford did what was asked of them and this is the way they have been repaid.

“The workers are worried; worried about their future and they are worried about their pensions and this is something that I have asked the Welsh Government to look at in particular.

“I asked the Minister for the Economy and Transport if he would give an assurance to Ford workers that all that can be done is being done and whether he would give an assurance that those workers will receive assistance from the Welsh Government and that the Welsh Government will look to provide a future for them and for the town.

“I certainly won’t give up fighting for those workers and working with the trade unions but we have to be prepared for all eventualities.”
