Local AM congratulates Hafod Housing on their award for Glanogwr House

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones has congratulated Hafod Housing for achieving the RNIB Visibly Better Platinum Award for its Glanogwr House retirement home in Bridgend. The platinum award is the highest level of accreditation the RNIB can award.

Glanogwr House is a retirement scheme for people over 55 which consists of 34 one-bedroom self-contained flats. Residents can be assured of complete independence as each flat has its own front door as well as access to a telecare emergency call system available 24 hours a day.

Hafod Housing has been working with RNIB Cymru to gain Visibly Better accreditation. The Visibly Better scheme offers a wide range of workshops that are designed to support and develop inclusive design in homes and public buildings for ageing eyes and people with sight loss. Organisations work towards six standards, which focus on different aspects of accessibility, and receive Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum levels of accreditation as they progress through the standards. Visibly Better accreditation is a hallmark of good practice, recognised by Welsh Government, which organisations can use in marketing materials to attract new clients and to include in tenders for contracts.

Mr Jones said “It was lovely to chat to some of the Hafod Housing staff to hear about what improvements have been made and to talk to some of the tenants to hear more about how these improvements have made a real difference to their quality of life.”
