Local MS pays his respects at the Bridgend Cenotaph

At the Bridgend Cenotaph today, MS for Bridgend Carwyn Jones placed his wreath for the last time as the local MS.

Due to Covid restrictions, Remembrance events not just across Bridgend county borough but across Wales were commemorated differently. Instead of the usual marches and parades, many people paid their respects quietly on their doorsteps or at home with family, paying tribute to all those who have served their country.

This year has been a year of significant milestones. In May and August, we commemorated the 75th anniversaries of VE and VJ days.

Mr Jones said “It was an honour to lay a wreath and to pay my respects to those who have lost their lives in conflict. We owe them a debt of gratitude. Even in the midst of COVID it’s important to remember. Having been to so many places such as Mametz, Artillery Wood, Ypres and Thiepval I know how emotional today is for so many families.”
