Medicines for the 21st Century- Safer, Better, Cheaper

Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was invited by PharmaFlow to open their conference ‘Medicines for the 21st Century- Safer, Better, Cheaper’.

The aim of the conference was to bring together healthcare professionals and researchers, patient representatives and politicians to express their thoughts on the medicines industry of today, how it helps them, where it lets them down and how it can be improved in the future. The aim was to put ‘patients not patents’ firmly centre stage.

There was a panel of experts from across Europe and USA who have world class experience in their respective fields. The keynote address was delivered (pre-recorded) by Janet Woodcock MD, Director, FDA Centre for Drug Evaluation and Research who will talk about the latest thinking and research at FDA. Dr Woodcock holds responsibility for approval for all medicines and medical products in the US.

At the end of the session, a conference white paper was created summarising proceedings, drawing conclusions and presenting recommendations on a way forward. The paper would be made available to key stakeholders including politicians.
