Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones had the opportunity to check on progress at the new water sports centre at Rest Bay in Porthcawl.
On course to open in late summer, the centre will provide a base for local water sports groups and clubs together with a café/restaurant, an ice cream kiosk, toilet facilities, showers, changing cubicles and a function room. EU funding is being invested in the development through the Welsh Government’s Tourism Attractor Destination Programme led by Visit Wales.
Mr Jones said “The building is going up very quickly and it is good to see the construction work progressing well. It was also good to have the opportunity to speak to the designer of the building and to ask questions about certain design features and its planned contemporary feel. I know that people are eager for this building to open and I hope that this will be well used by both residents and visitors alike to the town. The aim is to create an iconic contemporary destination to support and develop the watersports offer and provide high quality facilities for visitors”
