In May, it was a great pleasure to welcome Urdd members from Mid Glamorgan to the Senedd for the first performance of this year’s Peace and Goodwill message. The powerful message of hope and peace has been shared with young people around the world. People were encouraged to share the message on social media using the #heddwch2018.
In the message, the young people express their gratitude for the opportunities that they have had in all aspects of their lives, their hope that these opportunities are available to everyone and also the hope that everyone is given the same opportunity to use their voice.
Over the years, the message has been performed from a variety of venues including the top of Snowdon and the European Parliament. The first message was sent in 1922 by the Reverend Gwilym Davies from the Rhymney Valley, the same year that the Urdd was founded by Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards.
The message has been translated into many languages including Chinese, English, Czech, Estonian, Finish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Gaelic, Russian, Spanish and Swedish and reaches all corners of the world.
