I am pleased that building work has now started on the new primary care and community services centre in Porthcawl. A few weeks ago, GPs and healthcare officials held a turf cutting ceremony to mark the start of construction. The new centre will be located on Newton Nottage Road, next to Meadow Lake. I know that for some people, the site may not be the perfect location, however, we cannot ignore the fact that the current situation is not fit for purpose. Indeed, the main surgery site is not sufficient as it does not have the space needed to deliver those modern healthcare services, services are not all delivered in one place with patients having to travel between two sites and there is little capacity to modernise or expand. This new purpose built centre is much needed for the town and will provide more space and modern facilities to meet the needs of patients. The new centre will be more welcoming for patients.
I look forward to seeing progress on site as the new primary care centre takes shape. I understand that the centre is due to be completed in spring 2019.
