Last month I had the pleasure of being invited as guest reader to Bryntirion Infants Reading Cafe.
At the reading cafe, pupils listened to the story and then completed an activity related to what they had heard. This story chosen was “Fergus goes Quakers’’ by Tony Maddox. Pupils listened to the farm themed story and then completed a number of related activities including making their own farm yard picture and choosing and colouring individual animal masks. Throughout pupils were excited, motivated and focused.
The cafe highlights the importance of reading with children and clearly shows the positive impact reading together can have on all literacy skills, not to mention the enjoyment to be had by all!
I would urge all – whatever your age – to pick a book and get reading!
