Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was pleased to lend his support to Tesco’s Neighbourhood Food Collection; their eighth Neighbourhood Food Collection with their charity partners, The Trussell Trust and FareShare. He visited the Brewery Lane store in Bridgend. He knows the store well. Not only is he a regular customer but also he has worked there as a trolley boy when he was younger.
Tesco’s last collection, held in December 2015, was a fantastic success. Thanks to the generosity of their customers, the hard work of Tesco staff and their top up donation, Tesco were able to provide more than 3.6 million meals to people in need.
Since its first Neighbourhood Food Collection in December 2012, Tesco has donated more than 30 million meals to help FareShare and The Trussell Trust support people in need across the UK.
Mr Jones said “On the day I visited my local store, there were pupils from Llangewydd Junior School collecting. It was great to see the children involved in collecting for such a good cause. We know there are still too many people who struggle with the everyday necessities of life, but it was great to see people donating and smiling.”
