A few weeks ago, I joined the organisers of the Urdd Eisteddfod for a business breakfast at the Vale Resort Hotel to raise awareness of how local businesses can get involved and support the Urdd Eisteddfod which is coming to the Bridgend area next year. The Urdd Eisteddfod is one of Europe’s largest youth touring festivals with over 15,000 children and young people competing. It will be held at Bridgend College’s Pencoed Campus between 29 May and 3 June 2017. Flintshire hosted this year’s Urdd Eisteddfod and the mayor, Cllr Ian Roberts, has spoken about how hosting the event had been “an unbelievable opportunity”.
At the business breakfast local business representatives heard about how they can get involved and about corporate sponsorship packages available. A number of reports have been commissioned including a STEAM report which showed that the Urdd National Eisteddfod contributes over £6m to the local economy. Businesses have an opportunity to sponsor competitions, to have their company logos on backdrops when TV interviews take place, to have their company logos in programmes, for their banners advertising their business to be located around the Maes and to have a Trade Stand.
The Urdd Eisteddfod is a wonderful platform for celebrating youth talent in Wales. This will be an important event and it will be a huge boost to the area and to the local economy. With so many visitors coming to our community, I hope that businesses will make the most of these opportunities.
