Bridgend AM Carwyn Jones was very pleased to visit Young at Heart community group in Cefn Glas.
Young at Heart is an over 50’s community group and was set up just over a year ago. The group is totally independent from Bridgend Shout and its membership is growing. Most members are in their 60’s, although there are a few members in their 50’s. The oldest of the group is 92 years old. There are about 35 people in the group.
Over the past year, the group has invited representatives from Age Cymru, the Royal British Legion, the Fire Service and other key organisations to address them on a range of issues. The group also has a strong social element with many activities arranged such as creative writing, poetry, painting and Tai Chi classes.
During his visit, Mr Jones talked about his role as the local Assembly Member, his role as First Minister and about the work of the Assembly. He then then invited questions. These ranged from local issues such as recycling, anti-social behaviour, Bridgend town centre and local health issues through to questions about the Assembly on powers and responsibilities, representation of women at the Assembly and funding of the Assembly.
There was certainly a broad range of issues raised and it was a very lively hour with no shortage of people having their say.
