Welsh Government grant to KPC

Just before Christmas, Kenfig Hill, Pyle and Cornelly Youth and Community (KPC) received the fantastic news that they were to receive a grant from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities Programme.  KPC is an independent youth charity based in Pyle in Bridgend.  It offers a range of services for children and young people including a range of training, advice and support to improve their wellbeing through to recreation activities. It has also expanded its services to support the wider community.  Some of the services on offer include after school clubs and dance classes through to Cuppa and Play sessions and IT support and training opportunities.

KPC had been campaigning and fundraising to replace their existing temporary single storey building- the “hub of their centre”. I have visited KPC for myself to see the great work that they do and it is good news that KPC will receive a grant of £500,000 to replace its single storey temporary accommodation with a permanent two storey building, hosting a range of services such as free basic skills training, a youth club, and one to one IT and CV writing support.

The Welsh Government’s  Community Facilities Programme is a capital grant scheme which is open to community and voluntary sector organisations including social enterprises. The focus of the programme is on increasing opportunity and tackling poverty. To be eligible for funding, there is a wide range of criteria but essentially organisations who apply must demonstrate that they are needed and used by the community and are offering services not duplicated in the surrounding area, that it provides services or hosts activities which prevent or mitigate poverty and its effects, that it is supported by the local authority or a local County Voluntary Council (CVC), Local Health Board or similar key partner, that it is sustainable over the medium to long term and that it is supported by the local community.

I know that the funding will enable KPC to continue to go from strength to strength.
